THE BASKETBALL LEAGUE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dayton Equity Center Provides Opportunities for Minority College Athletes.

DAYTON, OHIO.  The Dayton Equity Center has affiliated with The Basketball League (TBL) and Historically Black Universities and Colleges (HBCUs) to provide opportunities for recruitment to TBL league programs.

This new initiative of Dayton Equity Center is the inspiration of Rev. Peter Edward Matthews, Founder and Chief Executive Officer.  The Dayton Equity Center’s mission is: Providing opportunities for all and exists to  provide collaboratives that revive communities. It provides a variety of services in addressing the needs of underserved populations in our region including initiatives for providing healthcare access, workforce training, development, certification, youth tutoring, food security and provides best practices to other like organizations across the country. The Equity Center is currently expanding its reach and services throughout the state and the United States.  (Quote from Rev. Peter Matthews on this initiative, how long it has taken to develop, the opportunities this program will afford.)

The Basketball League (TBL) provides communities with a professional basketball team that gives an affordable/quality family entertainment experience. It also provides players with educational opportunities to learn from nationally acclaimed life skills classes for financial literacy, health and wellness, nutrition, preventative medicine and sports biomechanics.

Rev. Matthews recognized that The Basketball League’s mission and values to provide life skills, training, and employment opportunities aligned with that of the Equity Center.  Rev. Matthews and Equity Center’s COO David Hoard knew that their connections and affiliations with HBCUs could provide an excellent opportunity to assist TBL with recruitment of professional basketball players on college campuses, and in knowing that the players will receive necessary life skills training which will increase their chances for success well beyond their sports career.

(ANOTHER QUOTE FROM REV. MATTHEWS reflection about Equity Centers mission for giving back to the community, and providing stepping stones for life success.)

With the help of the Equity Center, The Basketball League will be presenting in the following areas: September – Jacksonville (FL), Providence (RI); October – Little Rock (AR), Savannah (GA), Austin (TX), Mobile (AL); November – Atlanta (GA), Greensboro (NC), Daytona Beach (FL), Seattle (WA); December – New Orleans (LA), Holly Springs (MS); January – Los Angeles (CA), Brooklyn (NY).
